Introduction

Establishment of NRA

Natural Resources Authority (NRA) was established in 1965.  In 1968  Law number 12 was authenticated to regulate tasks, responsibilities and management of NRA.

Since 1985, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources was assigned as the President of NRA. NRA is structured in a way to serve and pursue its purpose to increase the share of the mining sector in the national GDP.

NRA Main Responsibilities

·            Suggest policies to investigate, develop and exploit energy and mineral resources.

·            Explore and prospect of mineral resources in the form of the executing geological, geophysical, geochemical, technical  and economic studies.

·            Adopt plans and programs to administer laws and regulation in various fields of mineral resources.

·            Issue permits and licenses for prospecting explorations, mining, quarrying and also mineral rights certificates.

·            Enhance cooperation with various Government entities, in the form of establishing a data and documentation centre.

·            Supervise all hydrocarbons activities within the borders of the Kingdom, including granting concession, exploration and exploitation international agreements.

·            Any responsibilities trusted to the Authority by the Council of Ministers.

NRA Strategies in the Field of Natural Resources

·            Establish an information center and a data bank about natural resources and connecting it with the national information centre.

·            Intensify investigation, prospecting and exploration for metallic and non-metallic minerals.

·            Promote the investment in oil shale as energy alternative for the country.

·            Direct supervision of oil and gas activities.
